Getting to know your instructor:
Alan Bernard Evans is known by his students as Mr. Alan. Mr. Alan started playing the piano when he was a freshman at Jackson State University, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. He later enrolled at Southern Methodist University where he studied with Professor Alfred Mouledous and received his Master of Music degree in Music Education (emphasis in Piano Pedagogy) in May 2009.
Mr. Alan experienced music by being a member of the band during his middle/high school years, He had no experience in piano. Because he was passionate about the instrument and desired to grow musically, he was able to accomplish a tremendous amount of musical capability at the piano in a short period of time”.
Mr. Alan knew that music would be a significant part of his life when as a student in middle school; his grandfather purchased him a brand new trumpet. When presented with this instrument, Mr. Alan immediately started delving into the world of music. The following school year he enrolled into his school’s concert band and the rest was history. From that moment on, he knew without a doubt that music would be a huge part of his life.
Mr. Alan’s philosophy of teaching is simple: to aid my students in achieving their greatest potential through hard work, determination and fun. I expect each of my students to become competent musicians. In order for this to happen, I have to bestow upon them the knowledge and tools that will allow them become competent musicians. I expect my students to come to each lesson eager to learn. I also expect each of my students to PRACTICE! Practice is fun. And you know what they say, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.”
