Getting to know your instructor:
Crystal Wilson is known by her students as “Ms. Crystal”. Ms. Crystal began formal study in piano at age 5 and has been playing for twenty-five years.
As for a significant and inspiring event, Crystal states “I never had a significant event to inspire me. Music grew in my life organically. Since age five, playing the piano and listening to all genres of music is something that happens daily. I enjoy the entire process of music; listening, learning and performing”.
Ms. Crystal graduated cum laude with an undergraduate degree in piano performance from Texas A&M University-Commerce. “Currently I am completing preparation for my Master’s Recital which will allow me to graduate with a Master’s of Music with emphasis on piano performance, in December of 2012”.
Ms. Crystal’s philosophy is: “I always endeavor to help each of my students reach their full potential as a learner. It is my goal to help students cultivate critical thinking and listening skills that will help them become life-long independent learners. The environment in my classes is open and focused on making connections: connections between me and the students and between the students and material. Encouragement and positive feedback are necessary to successful learning. It is my responsibility as a teacher to show students that music is relevant to their lives as a form of emotional enrichment, intellectual development and even entertainment.”
Something humorous about Ms. Crystal: “I enjoy riding my motorcycle as often as possible!”
