Sum, Sum, Summer time!!
It’s here and before we know it the schedule begins to fill with vacations, weekend plans, and camps. As parents begin to seek out the best of the best while also trying to manage the schedule we can’t help but wonder.
Which camps will give my child the best bridge from school year to school year? What camps will be the most fun and teach the skills they won’t learn anywhere else?
A 2016 study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills. According to the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM Foundation), learning to play an instrument can improve mathematical learning and even increase SAT scores!
Best of all music is fun! When was the last time you turned up music on a drive and completed your commute in a notably better mood? What child doesn’t love a great beat, paired with a silly rhyme? Music overall helps the brain make connections that reading and math reviews simply can’t do. Music can be silly and loud or soothing and peaceful. Watching as a child enjoys and grows in their music is a gift; but seeing a child blossom into a musician….that is what inspires us, here at Rockwall School of Music.
This summer we are thrilled to offer 2 preschool summer camps written and designed by early childhood educator, Rachel Hartgrove and assisted by Emily Norris. As well as 3 Musical Sampler camps geared for our 2nd grade and older students interested in exploring the variety of instruments they can learn from. Finally we have 3 camps geared toward our experienced students having had at least 1 year of lessons providing them an opportunity to play as a band and write music!
With over 20 years of music lesson education here at Rockwall School of Music, we have learned that even a week of summer music is extremely beneficial. Students arrive expecting a week of fun; leave excited to discover a talent, skill, and passion that was just waiting to be ignited. We have watched as confidence builds with each new day as students discover how much they can learn so quickly in a week at music camp.
Music is all around our children every day. Providing our students an opportunity to be immersed, experiencing it on a variety of levels, and better still learn to create music! This is what we at Rockwall School of Music consider the greatest success of all.
It’s not too late, there is still room available to get your student enrolled in a summer music camp! Call or email us to begin your students musical journey today!!
