Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass

We offer lessons in Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass. These are the recommended ages to begin each instrument:

Violin: 5 years old
Viola: 3rd grade
Cello & Bass: 5th grade

Violin in particular is one of the best instruments for students ages 5-6 years old to start on, in part because violins come in small sizes for very young students and in part because of the Suzuki Method, a curriculum tailored toward violin students who do not yet read. Students age 5-12 years will be asked to schedule a sizing appointment with one of our qualified instructors to determine what size instrument they will need.

Already in an Orchestra Program?

For students already involved in an orchestra program at school, weekly private lessons in violin, viola, cello, or double bass can help tremendously with a student’s musical mastery, including learning proper playing techniques, note reading and recognition, and general music theory concepts. Your private lesson teacher can also help you prepare for concerts and auditions throughout the year. For more advanced students, we recommend a 45 or 60 minute orchestral string lesson to cover more ground each week.

During the school year, Private Music Lessons are offered:
Mondays – Thursdays from 1:30 – 8:30 PM
Fridays from 1:30 – 6:30 PM
Saturday 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Sunday 2 PM – 6 PM

Placement in a class is based on age, skill level, and availability in the teacher’s schedule. The minimum age for a beginning violin lessons is 5 years old. For Viola and Cello ages start at 8 years of age.

INSTRUMENTS

Investing in a quality instrument is an important element in a student’s success. This will make the learning process more enjoyable. If you already have an instrument, please make sure it is in good repair. Orchestral stringed instruments can be rented or repaired at local area businesses.
