Our Private Music Lessons

Music should feel personal. It should fit your life, your schedule, and the way you learn. At Rockwall School of Music, we offer private music lessons for students of all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re enrolling a child for their first lesson or picking music back up after years away, you’ll find a place here that’s easy to walk into and easy to stay with.

You don’t need to “be musical” to start. You just need to start.

Our lessons are built around one simple idea: people learn best when they feel comfortable, supported, and challenged at the right pace. No pressure. No rigid programs. Just steady progress and real instruction.

We provide lessons for all ages. So, whether you have a young child curious about music or you are an older adult looking to continue learning new things, we have music lessons just for you!

Lessons for Every Age

Private Lessons

Private Lessons offer students one-to-one individualized instruction for 30, 45, or 60 minutes once weekly. We recommend that younger beginning students start with a 30 minute private lesson once a week. As they become older and more technically advanced, a 45 minute or 1 hour lesson may be more beneficial. Older students are invited to begin with a longer weekly lesson if they would like to move at a faster pace.

Suggested beginning ages for Private Lessons:

  • Violin: 5 years old
  • Piano: 1st grade
  • Guitar: 2nd grade
  • Drums: 2nd grade
  • Voice: 3rd grade
  • Viola: 3rd grade
  • Cello and Bass: 5th grade

ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

When children and younger teens begin to express an interest in music, the wise parent is the one who listens to their expressed desires. These parents know that the earlier a student begins learning an instrument the quicker they grasp the musical concepts and excel at the skills needed to play with musicality.

The Benefits of Music Lessons for Elementary & Middle School Students at RSM Include:

  • Weekly one-to-one individualized instruction with one of our university-trained music teachers.
  • Weekly practice, drills, and lessons custom designed to maximize a student’s learning process.
  • Assistance with audition and performance preparation.
  • Performance opportunities, including Recitals, Festivals, and competitions. (Working toward an achievable goal can help incentivize a student’s musical studies.)
  • Music Theory and Composition Instruction.

HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

High school students can have many demands on their time and attention. Our goal is to help these students achieve their highest level of musical mastery as well as to help prepare them for a lifetime of musical study. Private music lessons can be an important addition to an orchestral or choir student’s weekly schedule. Our teachers can provide guidance with audition and performance materials and assist students in mastering new skills and playing techniques.

Students interested in a career in music, it is imperative that they begin taking lessons as early as possible to prepare adequately for the audition into the college music program of their choice.

COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS AND MUSIC MAJORS

College music majors must pass the Piano Proficiency Exam in order to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree. Our qualified instructors can help take the stress out of this exam by offering weekly coaching as well as Music Theory instruction.

The Benefits of Music Lessons at RSM for High School & College students Include:

  • Weekly one-to-one individualized instruction with one of our university-trained music teachers. Longer 45 or 60 minute lessons can help more advanced students cover more ground.
  • Weekly practice, drills, and lessons custom designed for more advanced students to maximize their learning process.
  • Assistance with audition and performance preparation.
  • Multiple performance opportunities, including Recitals, Festivals, and competitions.
  • College-prep Music Theory and Composition Instruction.

Adults and Seniors

We offer an early-day lesson rate for students who can schedule a lesson at 3:00 pm or before Mondays-Fridays.
ADULTS
Adult students need a special type of teacher who can customize lessons to their unique needs and goals. Some adults have taken music lessons earlier in life and would like to pick back up where they left off. Others may want to fulfill a life-long dream and will be starting from scratch by learning to play an instrument or sing. Most adult students choose to take music lessons for their own personal enjoyment. They often report a decrease in tension and stress, better mental capacity, and better sleeping patterns when they add music to their daily routine. Overall, these students seem to benefit the most from a patient and caring teacher who is sensitive to their individual musical goals.
SENIORS
Senior adults can benefit a great deal from adding music to their weekly routine. Our amazing and patient teachers have experience teaching seniors as well as adapting the lessons to their particular needs and goals.
